PEACE UNFOLDS scoops bright Enterprise Award at Junk Kouture Grand Final

Three students from Portlaoise walked away as winners of the Junk Kouture bright Enterprise award in the rescheduled final of Junk Kouture 2020 on Thursday 4th February on RTÉ 2. Sarah Tuohy, Elise Finn and Grainne McCaul of Scoil Chríost Rí were awarded the prize sponsored by green energy supplier bright Energy for their design ‘Peace Unfolds’, at the Winners’ Party, which was broadcast online on junkkouture.com immediately after the TV programme.

The bright Enterprise Award was introduced to the competition in recent years, to reward a team that promotes their design creatively and effectively throughout their Junk Kouture journey. The prize this year was the bright Enterprise award trophy and €250 per team member.

The concept behind the winning design was to make a statement against violence in our world. The colour of the show-stopping gown was white, a symbol of peace, and in clever use of non-recyclable art folders, the young designers promoted the message that peace can unfold if we celebrate our differences rather than let them divide us.

CEO of bright Ciaran Devine said:The creativity and innovation displayed by contestants was incredible, and at bright, we see the enterprise of these young people as being key attributes for future decision-makers. Peace Unfolds from Scoil Chríost Rí, Co. Laois blew us away with their innovation and entrepreneurial skills as they planned and implemented a promotional campaign for their design throughout their Junk Kouture journey. We are a green electricity supplier doing our bit for the planet. This made sponsoring the bright Enterprise award particularly pleasing, being able to reward a team that has been innovative in their approach to promoting their sustainable design.”

CEO of Junk Kouture Troy Armour said: Well done to all our 2020 finalists who waited so patiently for their moment to shine. I hope everyone watching on TV here in Ireland and in our new international territories on RTÉ Player enjoyed this spectacular show. As always, I am in awe of the talent among these remarkable young people. Congratulations to Peace Unfolds from Scoil Chríost Rí on their bright Enterprise award!”

Viewers at home tuned in to RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player on Thursday to witness an array of incredible designs created and modelled by talented young designers like the students of Scoil Chríost Rí who waited so patiently throughout the pandemic for their moment to shine. The 2020 final was originally scheduled for April 2020 in 3Arena, Dublin but was postponed on account of the outbreak of Covid-19. However, all was not lost as Junk Kouture, supported by Creative Ireland, found an incredible alternative to the live event as the final was televised for the first time in its 10-year history last night.
