Design Description
Design Description: Our design is a 70s inspired outfit that embodies the definition of Haute Couture while being totally recycled. The name of our design Alarming Twists was inspired by the pandemic and what an alarming twist that was in all our lives. We created a design that brings positivity to people during an otherwise negative year. The colorful hippie aesthetic embodies our vision of positivity, love, and respect for the environment which we feel we need to embrace this year. We used techniques like crochet, plaiting, melting, twisting, and sewing to create our design. Our team also includes Chloe Coss.
Materials Used: We stripped old alarm cables open to using the wires inside. With them, we crocheted our trousers and the flowers for the cape. We stripped copper wire and plaited it to design our shoes, tie our cape together and crochet our necklace. We sourced used plastic bags. We cleaned and cut them into loops, twisted them into yarn which we used to crochet the corset top. We collected plastic bottles which we cut, melted, and twisted to form our headpiece.
