Design Description
Inspired by ocean pollution, ‘Trapped Mermaid’ tells the story of a sea creature fighting to escape waste overtaking her home. Made from 70 discarded life jackets and 60 repurposed water bottles, this design reflects the damage caused by human waste. The bright life jacket fabric forms the mermaid tail, while reshaped water bottles mimic barnacle-like textures, symbolizing coral reefs under threat. Every piece was hand-sewn and reconstructed, turning pollution into new materials that would have otherwise ended up at sea.
Materials Used: 70 Life Jackets, 60 Water Bottles & Netting
