Better Red than Dead
Gorey Community School. Co. Wexford
The design was created using hundreds of rosettes which the team has gathered from equestrian competitions over the years. The skirt is built upon a hoop structure and an old bedsheet. The top is a corset that was sewed eyelets into which allowed the top to be laced up at the back with ribbon. The headpiece was created using the wire framework from a discarded lampshade. The team was inspired to use the rosettes in as many different ways as possible and to bring their ideas to life. Ladies Day Outfits from horse racing events, Alice in Wonderlands Queen of Hearts, and the Notting Hill Carnival.
Materials Used: They pulled the rosettes apart and used the silky material to create flowers and trim for the hat and skirt. The tails from the rosettes created a weave for the top and as an embellishment for the head piece and shoes. The hat, top & shirt are decorated with old jewellery, lightweight red mesh, ribbon, feathers, and fluff from an old feather boa. The skirt structure is made from plumbers quadplex.
