Design Description

Inspired by the devastating impact of plastic pollution, ‘Calypso’ is made entirely from plastic, transforming 2kg of waste into couture. The stormy waves of the skirt symbolise the ongoing crisis of climate change, while the flowing layers reflect the power and beauty of the ocean. The pleated plastic bodice, fused from 10 melted panels, creates a sculptural structure. The tarpaulin skirt, with hand-painted, hand-sewn plastic ruffles, mimics crashing waves and the chaos of climate change. This design is a reminder of the countless plastic bags polluting our oceans daily.
