Behind the curtain can reveal a delicate unknown. This is how people feel about the curtain every household had to draw around their homes during the lockdown. Being at home with our family was an experience and opportunity of games and craic that we might never have again. The design, the bodice of karate belts reminded the student of the protection of the rib cage. The caged underskirt and headpiece show the hard part of lockdown, trapped and isolated. The dress was her escape from lockdown, and she wanted to represent that we were all together during this time as one.
Materials Used: The belts are the main attention piece; they are woven to create a checker pattern with old jewelry to add detail. The ballroom-style skirt is covered in old curtains with lace trousers hidden underneath. Styrofoam crawls up the arm with bookbinders to tie it all together. Her granny’s old embroidery hoop with wire fencing lay over her face with a lace edge. She used all recycled pieces to create a majestic and whimsical dress.
