Life’s a Circus
Gorey Community School, Co. Wexford
Our outfit is based around the circus. Circuses are full of unique & talented individuals & we wanted to show that it is admirable to stand out from the crowd! Another side to our costume which is of mental health, the skirt is white to represent a blank canvas of emotions whereas the colors on the inside of the skirt have a great meaning which is that we all hide emotions behind our blank canvas. All the colorful bottle caps throughout our outfit represent all emotions e.g. joy & anger. Many techniques were used e.g. paper mache for the top, structuring quadplex for the skirt & so much more.
Materials Used: Main material used was bottle caps which we collected from students throughout the school. We went on to paint bottle caps & then slice their edges or add them to spirals, each spiral had to be drilled for it to be applied to the skirt as well as the skirt structure. For the top, we used the method of paper mache where we used a bra & chicken wire. The skirt was structured from quadplex, wire ties & chicken wire. We also used a pair of old heels.
