Design Description

Inspired by marine pollution and hidden industrial waste, ‘Mer Made of Plastic’ transforms 18m of discarded plastic and 20 aluminium cans into a striking ocean-inspired design. The layered plastic skirt, made from flour bags and mattress packaging, mimics water’s movement, while the moulded satin bodice, shaped with wire, creates ripples like the ocean’s surface. Inspired by bio-mimicry, Alexander McQueen, and Kim Kardashian’s ‘wet look’, this piece blends fashion with activism, revealing the unseen waste polluting our seas.
