Netiquette

School

Moate Community School, Co. Westmeath

Design Description

In a world where social media has taken over and netiquette has been lost, we wanted to create a clear dress to show that you can always be seen even behind a screen.  Our design is a creation of nets sown together. The bodice is interwoven with wool while the tubular skirt is transparent. Clear plastic sheeting was molded into fan shapes to create a dramatic sleeve, head, and neckpiece with plastic tubing for structure. The ruffled cuff and shoe embellishments were created using plastic bags. A satin effect trim lines the bodice, neck, and headpiece.

Materials Used: For the dress we used plastic netting recycled from a garden center. These were sewn together. We used the weaving technique to cover the bodice with wool. We melted plastic sheeting with a heat gun to create the fan like shapes for the sleeves, neck and headpiece. We lined these with clear plastic tubing for structure. We used white plastic bags from our local shop to detail the shoes and cuffs. Recycled trimmings was used to outline the headpiece.
