Design Description
We wished to convey our message of plastic waste in the ocean through our design. The many plastic shards we used in creating our ocean mosaic contributed to our message. We were mesmerized by the beautiful reflective surface of our main underlay material. We were inspired to create a design that captured the power and elegance of the ocean. We crafted large shoulders to depict its power and a ballgown-like silhouette with a train to showcase its elegance. The reflective material and embellishments in our design mimicked the ocean shining surface
Materials Used: We collected milk cartons, CDs, and recycled plastic for our ocean mosaic. Our main material is underlay used in flooring, we used this for our main skirt, our bodice, and our detachable train. We used hoola-hoops and wire to craft our hoop skirt. Our headpiece is made from chicken wire and beads we hand unstitched from a second-hand dress. Our shoulders and feather-like train trim are made from recycled soft plastic.
