Design Description

‘Jeanealogy’ is an outfit designed and crafted from old denim jeans. The endless amount of colours, shades, textures inspired me to piece together mosaic masterpieces and famous artists I admire. “Sunflowers” by Van Gogh, “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Vermeer, and ‘Frida Kahlo,’ feature on my skirt. The top half of my outfit consists of elegant handstitched denim jeans, smocked top with a pleated peplum finish kicking out at the bottom. A denim ruffle outlines the v-neck while the back is designed with metal zips & buttons-as is the necklace. Zips constructed the headpiece to fit my head&face.

Materials Used: Denim – used in the top, skirt base, waistbands (bracelets), hems & seams (flowers and vines), belt loops (shoes & bracelet). ∙ Mosaics – denim scrap cuttings, curtain cord beads, old pearl earrings, sewing machine techniques for extra pops of colour!∙ Flowers & Flora – techniques: bleaching, fraying, ruffling, folding, etc. Decorated individually with zips, buttons, and beads.∙ The front centre of a denim jacket for the back of the top.∙ Metal zips & buttons.
