Fragmented Resilience inspired by Gimme-5 Well Being Programme

Junk Kouture, like New-Bridge Integrated College, are celebrating a big birthday this year.  New-Bridge Integrated College were so proud of sixth form students Mia Howie and Teigan McKnight when they represented their college in the 10th anniversary Junk Kouture Powered by R.T.E. Northern Regional Final on Feb 27th! New-Bridge Art department have had many successes with Junk Kouture over the last 10 years but this year’s presentation to a packed audience in the Millennium Forum, Derry-Londonderry, was particularly special given the timely message the girls wanted to share.

‘Fragmented Resilience’ recycled fashion design was inspired by the college’s Gimme 5 Well-being programme championed in school by Miss Murphy.  Mia and Teigan created the costume from recycled paper cups, insulating foam and plastic netting, ‘stuff’ that would have ordinarily ended up in the bin, such is the founding principle of the competition.  With their creative and innovative use of materials they fashioned a high drama response that drew an audible gasp from the crowd when it arrived on stage!  Mia, Teigan and all in the art department are keen to share the message of building our resilience in these uncertain times, we could all do with a little self care while we look after each other at home.
