Junk Kouture speaks with the Climate Group on what to expect from Climate Week NYC 2021

Climate Week NYC is kicking off on 20th September and is running until 26th September. This is a time and a place to showcase leading climate action.

Junk Kouture is delighted to be Climate Week NYC’s Sustainable Living Program partner this year and will continue with our aim to enrich and empower the lives of young people throughout the world in a sustainable and creative way.

Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with two members of the Climate Group, Communications team Ellie and Alexia, about what Climate Week NYC really is, what’s coming up in September and why our partnership is so special. Keep reading to find out more!

What is Climate Week NYC all about?

This was the first question we asked Ellie and Alexia. They explained that it’s a space for changemakers in the climate sphere, with a focus this year on fulfilling and increasing commitments made by businesses, governments and organisations. It’s a place for large scale conversations, happening on the ground. This year, the discussion will be focused on ‘getting it done’, and fast!

It’s hosted by the international non-profit Climate Group, in association with the United Nations. It’s also in partnership with the COP26 and the City of New York. The main aim is to accelerate climate action and make substantial progress before COP26.

Tell us about some of the events from Climate Week 2020

Ellie and Alexia told us that there were over 500 events during last years Climate Week NYC, despite a global pandemic! There were too many jaw-dropping events to mention, however, two that stood out were:

Marketplace of the Future, which is the ‘world’s fair of sustainability’ and they work with over forty brands. It’s a forward-thinking, innovative event that presents new inventions and technologies for reaching the ideal future for our world. Inspiring and different vendors, brands and community groups are showcased to the world, as alternatives to how we operate today. And the best part? Marketplace of the Future is BACK for Climate Week NYC 2021 – don’t miss it!

Climate Ballet: In 2019, GLACIER: A Climate Change Ballet, was another thought-provoking and eye-opening event at Climate Week NYC. It imagined dancers as melting polar ice caps, with pieces such as Rite of Spring and Crash of Fall setting the tone of the event.

Want to see other events just like this? Keep an eye out for the 2021 Events list – coming this summer!

Why do you love the partnership between Climate Week NYC and Junk Kouture?

Alexia and Ellie told us that they were super excited about the partnership between Junk Kouture and the Climate Group for Climate Week NYC. It gives Climate Week NYC the opportunity to be exposed to a new, younger audience than they usually would be and will help with the education and engagement of our world’s youth.

It is also such a valuable partnership for us at Junk Kouture. We are ecstatic to be joining the sustainability scene and expanding our reach ahead of our global launch, all the while doing work with Climate Week NYC that really matters.

You don’t want to miss this! Stay tuned for updates, and be sure to check back on September 20th.
