Junk Kouture Students Turn Heads at Cannes Film Festival
Cannes was dazzled by more than film stars and flashing cameras. In the midst of the iconic Cannes Film Festival, the red carpet was graced by a different kind of celebrity. Junk Kouture, the global youth fashion movement, brought head-turning, conversation-starting couture on La Croisette on Saturday 19th May with eight bold and brilliant designs created by students from Ireland, the UK, Italy, and Monaco.
With designs fashioned entirely from repurposed waste, think crisp packets, coffee pods, and sea glass, these young eco-couturiers really made a statement. As the glitz and glamour of Cannes rolled on, Junk Kouture’s young designers strutted their stuff, proving that circular fashion belongs on every red carpet.
From aluminium coffee pods turned into metallic magic to milk bottle caps transformed into sculptural silhouettes, each look was a showstopper that had passersby, influencers, and festivalgoers stopping in their tracks.
But the journey didn’t end there. After lighting up Cannes, the student designers took their mission further, traveling to Monaco to attend the Save the Rainforest 2025 Charity Gala at the prestigious Fairmont Monte Carlo. There, they showcased their designs once again, this time in support of the Borneo Wildlife Preservation and global rainforest conservation. It was a powerful reminder that what we wear can speak volumes about how we care for our planet and each other.
