When you use Junk Kouture, we need some information about you to run your account, help you take part, keep the community safe and make Junk Kouture work.

We do not sell your personal data.

Some things you choose to share, like your profile, Designs, posts or competition achievements, may be public. Information such as your email address, date of birth, phone number and guardian details is private.

Want to know what information we have about you? Go to:

You can request and download a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Want to leave Junk Kouture? Go to:

Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete My Account & Personal Data

If you ask us to delete your account and personal data, we will remove or anonymise your personal information unless there is a legal or other lawful reason that requires us to keep particular information.

For example, we may preserve the history of a Junk Kouture Design, competition result or award while removing the former participant's identity.

And if you're ever unsure, ask us. Privacy shouldn't be complicated.

Our promise to you

Your creativity belongs to you. Your personal data does too.

Junk Kouture is a global creative community and competition for young people. To make Junk Kouture work, we need to collect and use some personal information about the people who participate in our community.

We believe you should understand what information we have about you, why we have it and what you can do with it.

Our basic privacy principles are simple:

• We do not sell your personal data.
• We only collect and use personal data where we have a lawful reason to do so.
• We take particular care with information about children and young people.
• You can access and update information about you through your account.
• You can request and download a copy of your personal data from Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data.
• You can request deletion of your account and personal data from Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data.
• We use security measures designed to protect your information.
• Where we need to retain information for legal, safeguarding, financial or legitimate historical purposes, we will retain only what is necessary and, where appropriate, remove or anonymise your identity.

This Privacy Policy applies to people who interact with Junk Kouture, including:

Some parts of this Privacy Policy will therefore apply to you and others may not.

3. Children and young people

Young people are at the heart of Junk Kouture.

That means protecting children's and young people's information is particularly important to us.

We aim to explain how we use information in language that young people can understand.

Depending on how you use Junk Kouture, we may need information such as your age or date of birth to:

• establish whether you are eligible for a competition;
• place you in the correct age category;
• determine whether we need involvement from a parent or guardian;
• help us provide an age appropriate experience;
• support safeguarding; and

Where appropriate, we may ask for details of a parent or guardian and may require parental or guardian involvement or consent.

The precise requirements can vary according to a person's age, location and what they are doing on Junk Kouture.

We do not sell children's personal data.

We encourage young people to talk to a parent, guardian, educator or another trusted adult if they do not understand anything in this Privacy Policy.

The information we collect depends upon how you use Junk Kouture.

Account and profile information

• information you choose to add to your profile.

Some of this information may be visible publicly.

Other information, such as your email address, date of birth, telephone number and guardian information, is not intended to be displayed as part of your public profile.

Competition and participant information

If you participate in Junk Kouture, we may process information including:

• your Design Team;
• your Design;
• materials and creative techniques;
• your school;
• your educator;
• competition season;
• eligibility;
• competition progression;
• regional, national, city and world final participation;
• results and awards;
• photographs and videos;
• participation history;
• consent information; and
• information required to administer your participation.

Where travel is relevant, we may record whether you have a valid passport and its issuing country.

Junk Kouture does not need or intend to collect passport numbers or copies or scans of passports through the standard participant profile.

Parent and guardian information

Where required, we may collect:

• parent or guardian name;
• contact information;
• relationship to the participant; and
• records relating to permissions or consent.

Educator information

For educators, we may collect information such as:

• name and contact information;
• school;
• role;
• educator application or verification information;
• participation with Design Teams; and
• information required for safeguarding or verification.

Content you create

When you participate in the Junk Kouture community, we may process content such as:

• Designs;
• photographs;
• videos;
• posts;
• comments;
• reactions;
• challenge entries;
• Good Deeds;
• Collections;
• RE:MADE articles and submissions;
• competition submissions; and
• other content you choose to share.

Communications

We may keep information about communications you have with us, including support requests, emails, notifications and other interactions.

Technical and security information

When you use our services, we may collect technical information where necessary, such as:

• IP address;
• browser or device information;
• login and security activity;
• timestamps;
• system activity;
• error information; and
• information used to prevent fraud, abuse or unauthorised access.

Communications and marketing information

Where applicable, we may record:

• communication preferences;
• email delivery information;
• whether communications were opened or interacted with; and
• marketing preferences.

5. Why we use your information

We use personal data to operate Junk Kouture and provide our services.

Depending on your relationship with us, this can include the following purposes.

Providing the platform

Creating and maintaining accounts, profiles and community features.

Running Junk Kouture competitions

Receiving entries, managing Design Teams, checking eligibility, managing competition stages, voting, events, judging, results and awards.

Supporting educators and schools

Verifying educators, linking participants with schools and supporting participation.

Protecting young people

Administering guardian requirements, safeguarding and creating a safer community.

Operating our community

Enabling posts, comments, follows, Collections, Challenges, RE:MADE and other creative features.

Communicating with you

Providing important account, competition, event, support and service information.

Promoting Junk Kouture

Where appropriate, sharing competition activity, Designs, events, achievements and approved media.

Improving Junk Kouture

Understanding how our services are used and improving their performance, accessibility and usefulness.

Security

Preventing fraud, misuse, unauthorised access, spam and other harmful activity.

Legal and regulatory obligations

Keeping records or processing information where required by applicable law.

6. Our legal bases for using personal data

GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for processing personal data.

The lawful basis we rely on will depend upon the information, the reason we are using it and our relationship with you.

These may include:

Contract

We may process information where it is necessary to provide a service you have requested or to perform an agreement with you.

For example, this may include administering your account or your participation in a Junk Kouture competition.

Legitimate interests

We may process information where it is necessary for our legitimate interests or those of another person, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.

These interests may include:

• operating and improving Junk Kouture;
• maintaining appropriate historical competition records;
• protecting our systems;
• preventing fraud and abuse;
• understanding how our platform is used; and
• protecting the integrity of our competitions and community.

We take additional care when relying on legitimate interests in relation to children and young people.

Consent

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

Withdrawing consent does not make processing that occurred before withdrawal unlawful.

In exceptional circumstances, we may process information where necessary to protect someone's life or physical safety.

7. What other people can see

Junk Kouture includes community and competition features that are intended to be public.

Depending on your account and the choices available to you, information visible to other people may include:

• your display name;
• username;
• profile photograph;
• biography;
• school;
• Designs;
• published posts and content;
• competition participation;
• competition results;
• awards and achievements; and
• published RE:MADE content.

We do not intend to display private account information such as your email address, telephone number, date of birth, guardian contact details or passport information as part of your public profile.

Please remember that information you deliberately publish publicly can be seen, copied or shared by other people.

Young users should be particularly careful not to post addresses, telephone numbers, private contact details or other sensitive personal information in public posts, photographs, videos or comments.

8. Photographs, video and media

Photography, video and creative media are an important part of Junk Kouture.

If you participate in a competition or event, photographs or video may be taken of Designs, participants, educators and events.

We will process and publish this material only where we have an appropriate legal basis for doing so.

Where consent is required, we will seek the appropriate consent.

Withdrawing consent does not necessarily mean that every historical photograph containing you must automatically be removed.

The appropriate action will depend on the circumstances, the basis on which the material was used, the rights of others and applicable law.

Where appropriate, we may remove your name or other identifying links from historical media while preserving a legitimate historical or editorial record.

9. We do not sell your personal data

Junk Kouture does not sell your personal data.

We do use trusted organisations and technology providers to help us operate Junk Kouture.

These may include providers of:

• cloud hosting and databases;
• authentication and security;
• email and communications;
• website and application infrastructure;
• analytics;
• file and media storage;
• event services;
• customer support;
• professional and legal services; and
• other technology required to provide our services.

These organisations may process personal data on our behalf where necessary to provide their services.

Where required, we put appropriate contractual and data protection arrangements in place with organisations processing personal data for us.

We may also disclose information where required by law, regulation, court order or a competent authority, or where necessary to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.

10. International transfers

Junk Kouture is an international community.

Some of the organisations that help us provide our services may process information in countries outside Ireland or the European Economic Area.

Where applicable data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer of personal data, we will use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include a European Commission adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

11. How long we keep your information

We do not keep identifiable personal information indefinitely simply because we can.

We retain personal data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which we collected it, including providing our services and satisfying legal, financial, safeguarding, security and regulatory requirements.

Different types of information may therefore have different retention periods.

When information is no longer required, we may:

• delete it;
• anonymise it so it can no longer identify you; or
• retain it where we have a lawful reason to do so.

Some historical Junk Kouture records may have lasting creative, competition or archival value.

For example, we may preserve the historical existence of:

• a Design;
• a competition;
• a competition result;
• an award;
• a season;
• an event; or
• aggregate historical statistics.

Where appropriate following an erasure request, we can preserve that historical record while removing the person's identity.

The creative and competition record survives, but the former participant is no longer identified by that record.

12. Your rights

Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may have rights concerning your personal data.

These may include:

You can ask what personal data we hold about you and obtain a copy.

Rectification

You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.

Erasure

You can ask us to delete personal data in circumstances where the right to erasure applies.

Restriction

You can ask us to restrict certain processing of your personal data where applicable.

Objection

You may have the right to object to certain processing, including some processing based on legitimate interests and direct marketing.

Data portability

You may have the right to receive certain personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format where the legal requirements for portability apply.

Withdrawal of consent

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Complaints

You can make a complaint to the relevant data protection supervisory authority.

These rights are not absolute and may depend upon the circumstances and applicable law.

13. Download your personal data

Your personal data should be accessible to you.

You can request a copy of the personal data associated with your Junk Kouture account at any time through:

We will securely prepare your information for download.

For security, we may need to verify your identity before providing personal information.

Your download may include information from different parts of your Junk Kouture account and participation history.

Information relating to another person may be removed or limited where necessary to protect their privacy.

Your data download may be provided in a commonly used electronic format and may include a machine readable version of relevant information.

14. Delete your account and personal data

You can request deletion of your Junk Kouture account and personal data through:

Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete My Account & Personal Data

We may need to verify your identity before processing an erasure request.

When we process an erasure request, information associated with your account may be:

Deleted where we no longer need it.

Anonymised where a legitimate historical record can remain without identifying you.

Retained where we have a legal or other lawful reason to retain particular information.

Reviewed where human review is necessary, for example because information relates to safeguarding, another person's rights, financial records or historical media.

The right to erasure does not require every record to be destroyed in every circumstance.

Where we retain information following an erasure request, we will only retain information where we have an appropriate lawful reason to do so.

For historical records that can legitimately be retained without identifying you, we may replace your identity with a neutral description such as:

Former JK Educator

Former JK Contributor

or

Former JK User

This allows us to preserve legitimate creative, competition or editorial history without unnecessarily preserving your personal identity.

Once your account has been deleted, you may permanently lose access to your profile, content, achievements and other account functionality.

15. Correcting your information

You can change certain information directly through your Junk Kouture profile and settings.

If information cannot be corrected through your account, you can contact us at privacy@junkkouture.com and ask us to correct it.

16. Marketing communications

Where we send optional marketing communications, you can change your preferences or unsubscribe using the mechanism provided in the communication or through your account where available.

If you withdraw from marketing communications, you may still receive essential service messages relating to your account, security, competition participation, events you have registered for or other services you have requested.

17. Cookies and similar technologies

Junk Kouture may use cookies and similar technologies to support functions such as:

• keeping users signed in;
• remembering preferences;
• securing our services;
• understanding service performance; and
• providing permitted analytics or other functionality.

Where applicable law requires consent for non essential cookies or similar technologies, we will provide appropriate choices.

More detailed information may be provided through a separate Cookie Policy or cookie settings interface.

18. Automated decision making and artificial intelligence

We may use automated systems or artificial intelligence to help operate aspects of Junk Kouture.

For example, technology may assist us with:

• content moderation;
• recommendations;
• platform security;
• detecting spam or abuse;

• improving the experience we provide.

We do not intend to use solely automated decision making to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects for an individual without the safeguards required by applicable law.

Where human judgement is appropriate, particularly in relation to safeguarding, significant competition decisions or other important matters affecting young people, automated technology should support rather than improperly replace appropriate human decision making.

If we introduce significant automated decision making or profiling, we will provide any additional information and protections required by applicable law.

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.

These measures may include:

• access controls;
• authentication;
• restricted administrative access;
• database security controls;
• private file storage;
• encryption in transit;
• encryption at rest where provided by our infrastructure;
• security monitoring;
• logging and auditing;
• data minimisation; and
• controls restricting access to sensitive information.

No online service can guarantee absolute security, but protecting the information entrusted to us is an important part of operating Junk Kouture.

20. Safeguarding information

Some information may be processed specifically for safeguarding or the protection of children and young people.

Access to safeguarding information is restricted and it may be subject to different retention requirements from ordinary account information.

A request to delete an account does not automatically result in deletion of a safeguarding record where we have a legal or safeguarding reason to retain it.

We will only retain and use such information where there is an appropriate lawful basis.

21. Information about other people

Sometimes you may provide information relating to another person, for example a parent, guardian, educator or Design Team member.

Please only provide another person's personal information where it is appropriate for you to do so.

Having access to your own personal data does not give you the right to access another person's private information.

For that reason, information relating to other people may be removed or limited when we respond to a data access request.

22. Links and third party services

Junk Kouture may contain links to websites or services operated by other organisations.

Their privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policies and not this Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to read those policies when using external services.

23. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Junk Kouture develops, our services change or legal requirements change.

We will display the current version on our platform together with its effective or last updated date.

If we make a significant change affecting how we use personal data, we will take reasonable steps to bring that change to the attention of affected users.

Where a change requires consent, we will ask for consent rather than treating continued use of Junk Kouture as consent.

Junk Kouture exists to give young people a place to express their creativity, individuality and ideas.
