Rachel Irwin taking sustainable fashion to new heights. Northern Ireland teenager swaps farm for catwalk with eco-friendly fashion designs.

Armagh fashion designer Rachel Irwin will take to the catwalk in the Guildhall in Derry this Wednesday.

This 17-year old talented designer will show off her latest sustainable fashion designs as part of the Derry City’s Halloween festivities.

Award winning Rachel creates her designs from things most people would consider as rubbish. Talking about her designers,

Rachel said “I can just lose hours making and designing stuff so it definitely helps take my mind off things and lets me express myself.”

This accomplished teen who hails from Tynan in Co Armagh and was one of five winners in the Junk Kouture competition back in 2018.

The competition encourages young talented secondary school designers in Ireland to create fashion designs and wearable art from rubbish or junk.

Rachel is now set to model four of her pieces at a Gothica Glam fashion show in the Guildhall in Derry this Wednesday as part of the city’s famed programme of Halloween festivities.

Rachel splits her time between working on the family farm in Armagh and attending a fashion design course at the Met College in Belfast City.

Rachel is inspired by Greta Thunberg

This talented fashion designer says she is looking forward to substituting her wellies for modelling where she will show off creative designs in Derry this Wednesday.

Rachel takes inspiration from the likes Greta Thunberg who is making people more conscious of the environment and people’s fashion habits,

She believes her design contributions are raising awareness as well as making young people more aware of the negative effects fast fashion is having on the planet.
