As announced just now on Jen Zamparelli’s Show on @rte2fm, congrats to the 2021 Junk Kouture RTÉ 2FM award winner GOLD COBRA from Scoil Bríde, Tuam, Galway. The winning design team is made up of Nia Lydon, Katelyn Boyle, Beibhinn Gleeson. The winners will receive a bespoke award and tickets to a 2022 gig.
Gold Cobra is inspired by the Greek mythological figure Medusa it features a gold snake motif which symbolises the power and strength within us. The team believed this to be a positive and empowering message for teenage girls as they transform into young independent women. They chose the colour gold as it is the colour of success, triumph and achievement. The individually crafted shapes in the train represent the shedding of old skin and becoming a new improved person.
The team sourced cable ties from the local GAA clubs, neighbours and friends. These were individually crafted into intricate and ornate teardrop shapes. Old wire and discarded charging cables were also given
a new life in the design.
