Design Description

Archie started Junk Kouture with no designing or textiles knowledge apart from a passion. The piece has strong value to him as it is a personal development of techniques which is visible through the dress, he also played with the idea of purpose vs form which he took great inspiration from Virgil Abloh’s “tourist vs purist” runway notes where he comments on this too. I morphed the form of the umbrella by making it a tight, curvy shape. Archie also attacked the purpose of the umbrella prop, where the form was the same just without its waterproofing feature. Thus, asking the question: what makes an umbrella?

MATERIALS USED

Made from old umbrellas and scrap acrylic from the DT department.
