Sustainability was alive-alive-oh in the Helix on Tuesday 4th March as an Irish design made from 2000 mussel shells was crowned Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year. Co. Westmeath student Clodagh Ramsey from Wilson’s Hospital School walked away as the overall winner for her design ‘Aquacultural’. This 32kg organic waste design champions sustainable food production and gender equality.

Junk Kouture is open to 12-19 year-olds and challenges young people to design, upcycle and create high end Kouture from recycled Junk, before showcasing their design and representing their school on stages across the world!
Junk Kouture offers schools and students a creative way to become involved in active climate change initiatives, empowering them to lasting behavioural change. We are constantly evolving the educational materials available to both educators and students on issues of sustainability and circular economies to help them look beyond their Junk Kouture project and begin to apply the knowledge learned to all aspects of their lives.
The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan TD announced the appointment of 20 organisations from across society, including Junk Kouture, THINKHOUSE, Leave No Trace Ireland, UCD, Cork Chamber, and Too Good To Go as part of the 2024-2025 SDG Champions Programme, to serve as leaders in driving forward Ireland’s progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
