From Pages to Fashion: Esmée Turns Memories into Something New
When Esmée Cornwall, a young creative based in Dorset, England, got in touch with Junk Kouture to share a design she had created, there was a story behind the materials that immediately caught our attention.
Inspired by Junk Kouture, Esmée spent around six to seven months creating a dress using materials that already existed around her - including old magazines she collected for free.
But one part of the dress has an even more personal story.
The bottom layer was created using pages from the script of a movie Esmée had once planned to make. When she decided not to continue with the project, rather than throwing the script away, she found another purpose for it.
By incorporating its pages into her dress, something connected to an unfinished project became both a memory and part of a new creative idea.
For Esmée, the project also reflects a simple message about creativity and fashion:
“Fashion doesn’t need to be expensive to be beautiful.”
Her design is a great example of how looking differently at the things around us can open up new creative possibilities. Old magazines became a material to experiment with. A discarded script became part of a new story. And an idea inspired by Junk Kouture became a project that Esmée wanted to share with our wider community.
